How to Register for CRA Account Access & Authorize Us as Your Representative

If you haven’t yet registered for a CRA online account, this is the first step to managing your tax affairs securely—and giving us the access we need to assist you effectively.

Here’s how to get set up and authorize us as your representative:

Step 1: Register for CRA Online Account Access

Whether you’re an individual, business owner, or trustee, you'll need to register with the CRA to manage your tax matters online.

➤ If You’re an Individual:
1. Visit
CRA My Account
2. Choose a login method:
o CRA user ID and password, or
o Sign-in partner (such as your online banking)
3. Click “CRA Register” if you don’t already have an account
4. Provide:
o Social Insurance Number (SIN)
o Date of birth and postal code
o Line amount from your most recent tax return
5. CRA will mail you a security code—once received, return and enter it to complete registration
6. If you are unsuccessful to get a security code or your account is locked due to other factors (late tax filings, payments overdue, other factors) you will need to contact the CRA personal helpline to assist you: 1-800-959-8281

➤ If You’re a Business Owner:
1. Visit
CRA My Business Account
2. Follow similar steps using your Business Number (BN)
3. Activate access after receiving your CRA security code
4. If you are unsuccessful to get a security code or your account is locked due to other factors (late tax filings, payments overdue, other factors) you will need to contact the CRA business helpline to assist you: 1-800-959-5525

➤ If You’re a Legal Representative for a Trust:
1. Visit
CRA My Account
2. Register and follow prompts similar to individuals or businesses
🔐 Note: Registration may take 5–10 business days due to CRA’s mailing of the security code.

Step 2: Authorize Our Firm as Your Representative

Once your CRA account is active, you can authorize us to act on your behalf:

1. Sign in to your CRA account
2. Navigate to the “Profile” section
3. Click “Authorize a Representative”
4. Choose to Authorize Online
5. Enter the identifier we provide:
o Business Number (BN) (for our firm)
6. Choose the level of access:
o Level 2 – View and make changes
7. Expiry, select “does not expire” so that we do not have to redo these steps yearly.
8. Submit and confirm the authorization to activate it

What Happens Next?

Once authorized, we can help you with:
- Tax filings and payment inquiries
- Reviewing CRA correspondence
- Representing you during reviews or audits

If you have questions or get stuck during the process, feel free to contact us—we’re happy to help.
